Morsy: We insist on regime change in Syria

Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi in his meeting with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in Brussels Thursday, September 13 / September, there was no room to talk about reforms in Syria, but must talk about change and stop the "bloodshed" there.

Mursi said he does not want to interfere in the internal affairs of Syria but wants the Syrian people to decide their own destiny. He added that the UN envoy to Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi, members of the Quartet will meet immediately after his return from Damascus.

For his part, Barroso said "no place" for President Bashar al-Assad in Syria, calling on international partners to assume their responsibility toward the Syrian people. He added that he does not understand the attitude of some countries "in support of the dictatorial regime" in Syria.

He said the European Commission supports the efforts of the United Nations and the Arab League in Syrian affairs. He expressed hope that Egypt plays a bigger role in resolving the crisis in Syria.
